it felt like i knew you…, 2012 - ongoing
I ride the NYC subway trains, usually in the evening when the seats are full. I focus on the shape of the space between the person sitting next to me and myself. I attempt to mentally and emotionally re-sculpt that space. In my mind, I reshape it- from the stiff and guarded space between strangers to the soft and yielding space between friends. I direct all my energy to this space between us. When the space palpably changes, and I completely feel like the stranger sitting next to me is my friend, I rest my head on that person’s shoulder…

Amazing Transparent Cabin in the Desert

In the splendid beauty and serenity of the desert in Joshua Tree, California, artist Phillip K Smith III revealed his light based project, Lucid Stead. Composed of mirrors, LED lighting and custom-built electronic equipment, the cabin transforms depending on the time of day.

In daylight, the 70-year-old cabin reflects and refracts the surrounding terrain like a mirage or a hallucination. As the sun sets behind the mountains, slowly shifting geometric color fields emerge and produce incredibly beautiful colors that pierce the night sky.

Smith states, “Lucid Stead is about tapping into the quiet and the pace of change of the desert. When you slow down and align yourself with the desert, the project begins to unfold before you. It reveals that it is about light and shadow, reflected light, projected light, and change.”

My name is Lizabeth Bennett, and I am a Canadian photographer who has undertaken a photo-project to last me a lifetime. With All Streets I have begun to photograph the world around me, street by street. Each street is represented by 10 photos, of what I feel best represents the atmosphere of the street. Each post is labelled with the street name and location, including a link to the street on google maps.

What I hope to achieve with this project is a reminder of how beautiful the world really is, even in the most exhausting of urban contexts. I have no plans in halting this project, and the potential longevity delights me. Eventually I hope to have an impressive archive of streets from all over the world, and with that glimpses of what life looks like street by street, city by city.
